Description: | World famous Lynch-Bages epitomizes the power and elegance of a great Pauillac. Planted to 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with over 200 acres of vineyards, this estate has remained essentially intact since the 16th century, and was named for the Bages plateau and the ownership of the estate by Thomas Lynch in the 17th and 18th centuries. The wine spends about 15 months in oak with 60% new oak, and tends to be a big, powerful wine. Robert Parker says that, 'Since the mid-1980s, Lynch-Bages has been performing well above its fifth-growth status, producing wines equivalent to a second-growth. Often referred to as the 'poor man's Mouton Rothschild,' it is a sure bet in most vintages.'. Daring, innovative and with a reputation for often being the last to harvest, Jean-Charles Cazes defined the style of Lynch-Bages in the 1930's. The Cazes family's roots lie in the Médoc : Château Lynch-Bages and Château Ormes de Pez were the first estates acquired by Jean-Charles Cazes in the late 1930's. Today, the family group encompasses reputed wine estates, a wine merchant company, and a branch dedicated to hospitality, gastronomy and wine tourism. The wine's distinctive character has earned itself a place among Pauillac's greatest wines. It combines structure, finesse and elegance, offering generous aromas in its youth and developing deeper complexities with bottle age. |
