| Description: | Marietta Cellars, located just outside of Geyserville in Sonoma County, was founded by owner and winemaker Chris Bilbro in 1978. He named the winery after his great aunt Marietta, an Italian immigrant who took Chris under her wing and taught him how to cook and taste. Her influence on him is reflected in his lifestyle and his wines. To this day, no wine gets bottled without his approval and no vineyard row goes more than a week without Chris riding his ATV through it. He produces wines of incredible consistency, both in quality and price, in relative anonymity. The Bilbro family winemaking tradition is now in its second generation. The majority of day to day operations are handled by Chris's three eldest sons, Jake, Scot, and Sam, who are all dedicated to the dream that Chris started in 1978. It is a non-vintage blend of mostly Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Carignane with small amounts of other varieties included for complexity. Old Vine Red is a delicious, well-made, textured and balanced wine that continues to be amazingly consistent 30 years after the first lot was released. Technical notes Marietta's version of a traditional field blend, the fruit for this Zinfandel based blend was harvested from vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino.
