Barbera d'Asti Michele Chiarlo

Barbera d'Asti Michele Chiarlo

Description: Michele Chiarlo sources grapes from strictly selected Barbera vineyards with excellent exposure to produce a superb, balanced wine. The choice vineyards are in the southern area of Asti province, especially the hills around Nizza Monferrato. Temperature controlled maceration and fermentation on the skins yields the dark, rich color that is typical of great Barberas. The wine is aged in large French oak casks before release. 90 Points. Food Pairing. Pairs well with chicken, mushrooms, pork and grilled or roasted red meats. Points Of Distinction. A classic Barbera from choice terroir. Matured in large oak casks for greater complexity Region Description. An Italian grape that's high in acidity and low in tannins; many producers age Barbera-made wines in oak to increase the level of tannins. The best wines made from Barbera grapes are made in Piedmont, specifically in the Asti and Alba regions. These wines are rich, with high acidity and generous black-cherry fruits. Barbera d'Asti is usually riper and richer than Barbera d'Alba, but the two wines can be equally powerful. Barbera is a wonderful everyday wine, perfect with pasta, pizza, or any tomato dish.
