Description: | 87-90 Bh. The Chambolle Musigny les Cras vineyard is an important terroir that is located immediately south of Fuees. Beyond it, the slope is taken up by Bonnes Mares. It shares the similar limestone marl terroir that Bonnes Mares grows in. Note: Les Cras is a split-rated vineyard and this is from the villages portion. Producer note: This large 48 ha domaine is directed by Dominique Guyon and his maître de chai Vincent Nicot. As of 2018 the domaine is now certified as organic and they believe that this is giving them better quality fruit. As to the 2018 vintage they noted that "we picked one vineyard on the 31st of August as it risked becoming over ripe and then paused until the 3rd of September when we restarted the harvest. The fruit was notably ripe and super-clean so we could pick each parcel when we wished. The vinifications unfolded without incident save for a few fermentation stoppages that were quickly rectified by giving the musts a quick aeration. We liked the reds from the very beginning for their generous textures and refreshing finishes. We were more skeptical about the whites but as the élevage has progressed we have progressively become more optimistic about them as well." I would agree with Messrs. Guyon and Nicot that their reds have several very fine examples and the 2018 whites, which will be reviewed in Issue 79, are really quite good as well. Note that the Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes and the two Pernand 1ers of Les Fichots and Les. Tasting note: There is an abundance of floral nuances adding a touch of elegance to the very ripe cassis and menthol-suffused nose. The equally ripe flavors possess slightly better verve before culminating in a stony if slightly warm finish.--Allen Meadows, Burghound. |
