Description: | "The 2018 is a wine of pure and total pleasure, worth seeking out" - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media. "Medium to full body with lovely fruit and a fine finish"- James Suckling. "a well-focused, thoroughly enjoyable Canon-Fronsac" - Jeb Dunnuck. After the runaway success of the 2019 Saintayme, we are thrilled to offer another compelling Bordeaux. The 2018 Chateau du Gazin is another delicious right bank Bordeaux that impressed us when we tasted it last year in France. We just retasted this wine and confirmed our initial impression. This crowd-pleasing wine offers a rich fruit profile with ripe, concentrated dark fruits such as blackberries and plum along with vanilla wrapped in silky smooth tannins. Critic James Suckling gave this wine a score of 92 Points noting its "lovely fruit" and calling it a "very pretty and classy wine.". The appellation of Canon Fronsac is located to the northwest of the neighboring appellations of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. The quality of the terroir is exceptional and similar to its famous neighbors with vineyards stretching northward into the clay-limestone hills of the Fronsac plateau. The quality of the well-draining soil coupled with a south facing slope and plentiful supply of natural water adds to the richness and complexity of the wines from this area. This family-owned and operated estate dates back to 1532. Georges Antoine Robert, whose family has owned the chateau for over 80 years, took over in 2004 and immediately set to improve the wines. In particular, he focused on farming the right way and converted the vineyards to organic farming. The results speak for themselves and are revealed with every sip of this enticing Bordeaux. This is a deliciously satisfying, crowd-pleasing wine that would make an excellent case purchase. We are thrilled to offer the 2018 Chateau du Gazin at the best price in the country. James Suckling 92 Points - "Very pretty aromas of raspberries and light vanilla with some violets, following through to a medium to full body with lovely fruit and a fine finish. Creamy tannins. 85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 5% malbec. Drink after 2023, but already very pretty and classy." |
