Description: | (sometimes also called Olivier Leflaive Frères or Maison Olivier Leflaive or Domaine Olivier Leflaive). An eighteenth-generation vigneron and a member of the Leflaive family, Olivier almost has Puligny-Montrachet in his blood. Domaine Leflaive, one of Burgundy's most august houses, was founded in 1717, and Olivier worked at his family's estate while quietly striking out on his own, buying some plots in the Côte d'Or and forging relationships with grape growers. About a decade after Maison Olivier Leflaive opened its doors in 1984(Domaine Olivier Leflaive would follow), Olivier left Domaine Leflaive, eventually joined by his brother Patrick, his daughter Julie, and other family members. Over time, Olivier expanded his holdings to 64 acres of estate-owned vineyards, mostly in Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, and Pommard; Olivier also leases plots or buys grapes grown on an additional 182 acres of vines. Alongside his chief winemaker, Franck Grux, Olivier and his team crafts wines from 82 climats, including the iconic grand crus of Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, and Montrachet. Olivier Leflaive takes a plot-focused approach to its winemaking, showcasing the terroir and placing an emphasis on purity — and this approach has paid off in wines of tremendous elegance, structure, and nuance. |
