Il Chiosso Fara

Il Chiosso Fara

Vintage: 2016
Description: The Il Chiosso wines from Alto Piedmont are fantastic, distinctive Italian wines and a perfect illustration of why customers are drawn to Hi-Time. You would never find wines like this at a supermarket or large retailer. In fact, these Nebbiolo-based wines from Northern Italy are appearing for the first time in the United States. These wines share flavor characteristics of a high quality Barolo or Barbaresco, but show a bit more minerality and finesse. The wines of Il Chiosso show how successfully the noble Nebbiolo grape grows in Alto Piedmont. For those of you who have discovered Alto Piedmont, here are two new wines to enjoy and add to your repertoire. For the uninitiated, this is a perfect opportunity to explore a brilliant expression of the Nebbiolo grape in a region which may be new to you at a fantastic price. The 2016 Il Chiosso Fara comes from grapes grown in soil composed of clays, sands and minerals from the Alps. Nebbiolo is blended with Vespolina and Uva Rara grapes before aging in large French and Slavonian oak barrels for three years. The Fara appellation is quite small resulting in limited production and even fewer bottles making it to the United States. It is a wine of substance and structure, which pairs well with grilled meats and cheeses such as Pecorino Romano. Medium ruby with garnet reflections. Aromas of rose, dusty cherry, strawberry, orange peel, potpourri, and sweet fresh-rolled tobacco. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and elegant in texture. Refreshing acidity makes this wine lively, displaying a bright red fruited character. The aromatics continue to increase with aeration, adding complexity. This drinks well now and calls for Osso Bucco or rack of lamb.
