Description: | 97 We / 95 Ws / 95 Wa / 95 JS / 95 Vm / 17 Jr. Red berry, blue flower, crushed herb and exotic spice aromas unfold in the glass. Elegant, structured and delicious, the full-bodied palate delivers red cherry and licorice, chopped mint alongside bright acidity and firm, refined tannins. It's impeccably balanced and will age gloriously. Drink 2021 -2043. - Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast. Pure and elegant, offering rose, cherry, strawberry, licorice and tobacco flavors. Vibrant and intense, with a long, grippy finish. A stony note peeks through on the finish. Best from 2022 through 2038. 715 cases made, 316 cases imported.-Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator. From Castiglione Falletto (but close to La Morra), the 2013 Barolo Bric dël Fiasc sees fruit sourced from a family-owned parcel located 270 meters above sea level with marl limestone soils on one side. The other side of the hilltop is characterized by sandy soils that you tend to see in this township. This is a darkly saturated and rich expression of Nebbiolo with bright aromas of dark cherry, dried blackberry, spice, leather and toasted hazelnut. The wine stands out for the singular elegance it possesses, especially in terms of mouthfeel. The finish is still youthful and succulent, so think long-term cellar aging.-Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate. Polished and tight with blueberries, plums and light chocolate. Medium to full body, fine and juicy tannins and a fresh finish.-James Suckling. The 2013 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is one of the most complete and satisfying wines in the range. Exquisitely layered and precise, the Bric del Fiasc is also unusually nuanced in this vintage. Iron, smoke, rose petal, mint and crushed flowers give the wine its distinctive aromatic signatures. The driving Bric del Fiasc tannins are present, and yet the 2013 is laid back and understated - as all the 2013s Barolos are - with less of its customary explosiveness and brutish power. I can't wait to see how it ages. -Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Earthy and a little voluptuous on the nose and complex. Soft, round and concentrated cherry and then a wave of grainy tannins. Subtle oak note. The most forward, open and seductive of the Scavino 2013 Barolos. Can be approached now, in spite of the long powdery tannin impact on the finish. Very long, sweet and perfumed finish.-Walter Speller, JancisRobinson |
