The harvested agaves are baked, shredded, fermented and double-distilled in both an alembic still and a stainless steel column still. Sauza then ages Hornitos for 4 to 6 months in large vats, which is just enough time in the oak to soften its character without being appreciably affected by the tannins in the wood. As a result, Hornitos has the exuberance and fresh agave character of a blanco tequila with a touch of the mellow refinement of an añejo. |
