For whatever reason, this wine comes across as a slightly denser, more substantial wine, which surprised me when one compares these two vintages in Napa for Bordeaux varieties. There's much more blueberry and blackberry fruit, hints of charcoal and espresso, and a medium to full-bodied finish. Dark red cherry, floral and spice notes abound in this beautifully delineated, vibrant Bordeaux blend. This is an absolutely delicious entry-level wine from one of Napa's most exciting new entrants. The significant presence of Merlot adds juiciness, but the 2014 also has quite a bit of aromatic lift and finesse. -- Antonio Galloni |
