Niellon Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru (750ML)

Niellon Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru (750ML)

From Chevalier-Montrachet

Vintage: 2018
Description: 97 Ws / 95 De / 95 Wa / 95 Jm / 93 Bh. A white of mouthfilling proportions-part vintage and part appellation-exhibiting peach, lemon cake, hazelnut and lime blossom aromas and flavors. Majestic and complex, its layers unfurl from beginning to the long, ethereal aftertaste. Superb. Best from 2023 through 2033. 70 cases imported. - Bs, Wine Spectator. Chevalier-Montrachet arguably performed best of the white Grands Crus in 2018, thanks to its altitude. This 1963 planting of 0.23ha is a case in point, as it has produced a characteristically racy, chalky, mineral-edged white with orange zest and lemon tart flavours embellished by fine, spicy, aromatic oak. Classy winemaking from Michel Coutoux.-Tim Atkin, Decanter. A deep and complex bouquet mingling notes of mandarin, apple, pear and peach with nuances of toasted nuts, fresh pastry and nutmeg introduces Niellon's 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, rich and textural wine that's ample and muscular, with lively acids and a long, spicy finish. Reminiscent of a slightly livelier version of Niellon's 2015 Chevalier, this is quite open and expressive and will show well young. Wk – The Wine Advocate. Clear pale colour. Very chiselled clean pure nose too, just what one wants from Chevalier. The bouquet grows steadily from its discreet start. A little bit of fresh pear. Sweetly silky texture with a touch of toast behind. Classic and powerful, not as fleshy as some years. Tasted: October 2019-Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy. Note: from a.23 ha parcel of vines planted in '62 and '68. Tasting note: A ripe but cool and restrained nose speaks of mildly exotic and very floral aromas that flash plenty of spice and soft wood notes. There is excellent volume and the best mid-palate density in the range to the opulent and oily flavors that exude plenty of minerality on the powerful and driving finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is a big and serious Chevalier.-Allen Meadows, Burghound
