The result is a fine quality spirit that accentuates the agave flavor. It is concentrated and complex while remaining balanced and easy to drink. One of the company's goals is to demonstrate how Tequila Ocho proves that "terroir" exists in agave. Ocho's single estates show through their distinct aroma and character. Tequila Ocho opens up and develops in the glass the same way a fine wine does. Ocho is the first tequila to designate both the year it was produced and the precise field from which the agave was harvested as is done with fine wines. Each estate, or "rancho" produces a limited amount of agave, each vintage of Ocho is both rare and collectable. The Plata agave is harvested from Tequila Ocho's "el refugio" estate, located 2,055 meters above sea level and named for the town nearby. It is approximately 7 hectares with 20,336 agave plants. As one of the highest elevation estates it has high temps of 24.8 C and lows at 9.1 C, making for the extremely high sugar content in the agave plant. Look for sweet molasses, butterscotch and ripe agave in the nose. It opens up to pumpkin and hints of peppermint. The palate is fresh and lively, with round sweetness, subtle tropical fruits and cinnamon notes. Made with 100% Blue Agave. |
