Mosel Fine Wines - 93 Points The 2023er Elisenberger Riesling Kabinett, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was made from fruit picked at 81 Oechsle in the area around the sundial and in the upper part of the vineyard and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (44 g/l). This offers a beautiful nose of strawberry, white pepper, whipped cream, herbs, and spices. The wine is beautifully playful and elegant on the palate where passion fruit mingles with tart minerals and fine herbal elements. The wine is beautifully juicy and playful in the finish. This is a beautiful Kabinett in the making. ***. Hi-time Notes: This is classic Richter from a gorgeous vintage. This buoyant, lush, jubilant Kabinett Riesling is brimming with raspberry, currant, and blueberry notes. It is lightly sweet, has good acidity, and is beautifuly balanced. The Veldenzer Elisenberg is a top monopole vineyard owned by Max. Ferdinand Richter. The Richter's ownership of the Veldenzer Elisenberg dates back to 1813 when ancestor Franz Ludwig Niessen found out that Napoleon Bonaparte planned on uprooting the beloved Veldenz and Mulheim vineyards, and negotiated a personal payment to the General to prevent him from destroying the vineyards. As thanks, the town gave him the entire slope of Veldenzer Elisenberg and it has remained in the family ever since. Soils here are composed of quartz. |
