Kenwood Sonoma County Zinfandel
From Sonoma, USA
Description: | Kenwood prides itself on its history of highly acclaimed, consistent gold-medal winning Sonoma Zinfandel since it was first produced in 1970. The zest and zing of this varietal make it the winemakers personal favorite. Our Sonoma County Zinfandel is blended from vineyards located in Sonoma Countys best Zinfandel appellations, the Sonoma and Dry Creek Valleys. A portion of the blend comes from old-vine vineyards that have been producing excellent grapes since the 1940s. The 2004 growing season was characterized by a mild summer and early fall; midway through the harvest, warm weather came which slightly dehydrated the fruit giving it a rich jammy character. Harvested in mid-September to October each vineyard lot was then fermented separately in stainless steel tanks and aged individually in American and French oak barrels for 18 months. Just prior to bottling, the lots were blended to create a wine with intense raspberry jam flavors and delightful spicy notes. The 2004 vintage of Sonoma County Zinfandel is ready to drink now, but should continue to improve for another decade. |
