Eszterbauer Tüke Bikavér Szekszárdi

Eszterbauer Tüke Bikavér Szekszárdi

Vintage: 2008
Winery: Eszterbauer
Description: Egri Bikavér (Egg-gree Beak-a-veer) translates to "Bull's Blood of Eger." This odd moniker stems from an alleged tale of Hungarian troops charging down the hills of Eger with red stained beards to fight off the invading Turks. The Turks were so soundly defeated that they believed the Hungarians were drinking bull's blood for energy, instead of delicious wine. This powerful image translates well into Eszterbauer. Reminiscent of cool climate Châteauneuf-du-Pape (and similarly comprised of a 13-grape selection), it's exotic and weighty while remaining light on its feet. Pair this with braised fowl, traditional goulash, or Middle Eastern lamb dishes. Importer notes: "Eszterbauer's "Tüke" Bikavér is a fine example of a modern, well-made 'Bullsblood'. Typical for a Bikavér from Szekszard there is a fair amount of Kekfrankos and Kadarka in the cuvee. Spicy and deep, yet easy to drink with only 14% Alcohol this wine pairs well with BBQ meats, burgers, and spaghetti Bolognese.".
