Rutini 'Trumpeter' Mendoza, Argentina Malbec

Rutini 'Trumpeter' Mendoza, Argentina Malbec

100% Malbec

Vintage: 2011
Description: Prior to the 19th century, not much wine was made in Argentina. But in the 1800s, a good number of Italians left their homeland and re-settled in Argentina, primarily in what today is known as the Mendoza region. Among them was Don Felipe Rutini, now considered one of Mendoza's winemaking pioneers. Not only was Rutini among the first to plant grapes and make wine in Mendoza, but he focused on placing the right varieties in the right microclimates. Today, Rutini family members continue to farm the land and craft fine wines from estate vineyards in the Andes foothills. One of the family's wine lines is known as "Trumpeter," and the Rutini winemaker crafts renditions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Malbec under that label. The 2011 "Trumpeter" Malbec is a dense wine with a long, satisfying finish — the kind of wine Don Felipe Rutini no doubt envisioned after settling in his new homeland.
