Altos Las Hormigas 'Clasico' Mendoza, Argentina Malbec

Altos Las Hormigas 'Clasico' Mendoza, Argentina Malbec

100% Malbec

Vintage: 2010
Description: Alberto Antonini knows a vinous opportunity when he sees one. Antonini is one of the best known winemakers in Tuscany, and once served as the head winemaker at Antinori, an enterprise that has collected countless gold medals through the years. In 1995, Antonini and entrepreneur Antonio Morescalchi decided to go looking for investment opportunities in the Mendoza region of Argentina. They were impressed by what they saw, and felt that an area with such strong traditional viticultural values could be elevated to the world wine stage with an infusion of modern winemaking equipment. Antonini also felt that Malbec had an opportunity to be "The Wine" of Argentina. It turns out he was right on both counts. Other partners were brought in, and today Altos Las Hormigas is producing amazing Malbec bottlings from Mendoza-grown grapes, including one designated as "Clasico." The 2010 "Clasico" is a beautifully balanced wine that underscores Alberto Antonini's expertise.
