La Badiola Acquagiusta Rosso

Description: | Marema is still in its ‘formative years' but one of the sneaky little jewels we found last year was this wine made by La Badiola for their resort in which Michelin-starred super-star chef Alain Ducasse is a partner. Served at the restaurant, this fleshy, engaging red is made to be juicy and outgoing yet elegant. The mix is a little more than one third each Cabernet and Merlot, with the balance Syrah. The nose shows spice, wild herb, and floral notes, the texture supple and fleshy. The fruit is bright and generous, ripe but with not over-ripe, maintaining its Italian cool. What is also interesting about this wine is that comes from what looks to be a pretty upscale resort, yet the wine delivers value as well as an honest, terroir-driven mouthful of fruit. Delicious.
