Chateau La Caminade - 'Mission' La Caminade

Chateau La Caminade - 'Mission' La Caminade

Malbec, Merlot from Cahors

Vintage: 2009
Description: This estate has been around since well before the French Revolution, resting in the hands first of the clergy and then, since 1895, in the hands of the Resses family. The Resses family, with others, has been instrumental since the 1950s in the rebirth of Cahors as a major wine-producing region. Chateau La Caminade has helped create a new benchmark for quality in Cahors, and the Resses family's second wine - Mission La Caminade - is a fantastic introduction to Cahors. Plus, it's one of the best cookout, party, or simple Tuesday night supper reds we know of!. A blend of mainly Malbec with a dash of Merlot, the 2008 Mission La Caminade marries classic Cahors character with an easy-to-drink sensibility. Aromas of black cherry, plum, violets and earth waft from the glass. In the mouth, it's a trim wine - only 12.5% alcohol - that starts with a burst of juicy black cherry/berry and red plum fruit and then gains complexity from notes of baking spice and purple flowers. It's very easy to enjoy, but remains in firm contact with the terroir of Cahors - you'll find a lovely earthy element and a fine mineral streak that speaks to Cahors' limestone soils. This is an honest, genuine, wine that shows just how refreshing and vibrant Malbec can be. And, it's by far the lowest price you'll find anywhere!
