| Description: | The 2008 Chianti Classico offers up plums, violets, minerals, leather and tobacco on a rich, articulated frame that literally explodes on the palate with a burst of dark red fruit. A tense, wiry finish gives the wine fabulous length. So far, I have tasted very little in 2008 Chianti Classico that is truly exciting, but this is a notable and very welcome exception. Anticipated maturity: 2013 2023. La Maialina is my most exciting discovery in Tuscany so far this year. Consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli buys wines in bulk from one of Tuscany's most elite properties, then raises and bottles them in a separate facility. I was blown away by what I tasted. When you factor in the price, these are some of the most stunning values to come out of Tuscany, or anywhere for that matter. |
