| Description: | Caprili's 2008 Brunello di Montalcino is endowed with serious depth. Juicy and expressive, the 2008 offers up plums, black cherries, tobacco, smoke and licorice nuances. The balance of fruit, tannin and acidity is simply terrific. I imagine the 2008 will be even better in another year or two, but it is already pretty delicious. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2023. It opens with a dark color and thick aromas of cassis, leather, spice and tobacco that hint at the power to come. The mouthfeel is streamlined and tight, but it also benefits from firm tannins and a bright acidic vein. (5/2013) 90 points James Suckling. This is a wine with pure cherry character, with medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Refined and pretty. Drink now. (2/2013) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar. Good medium-dark red. Deep, spicy scents of dark cherry, tobacco, minerals and herbs. The red cherry and herbal dark plum flavors boast good density and impressive youthful energy. Finishes very clean, with a sappy density and very good length. 90(+?) points. (7/2013) 90 points Wine Spectator. This red exhibits a core of cherry, raspberry and red fruit wrapped in a coat of firm tannins. Balsamic and earth notes add Sangiovese character, keeping this tight on the finish. Shows fine potential. Best from 2017 through 2032. (5/2013). |
