Caprili Rosso Di Montalcino

Caprili Rosso Di Montalcino

Vintage: 2011
Description: S. Irene Virbila writes in Los Angeles Times: "What a beauty. Caprili's 2011 Rosso di Montalcino, 100% Sangiovese grosso, is the perfect food wine, bright and chiseled, with flavors of black cherries, sweet spices and chocolate. Tannins are tight, and there's a lovely slight bitterness at the finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. It's wonderful with tagliatelle or fettuccine with meat ragù, grilled portobello mushrooms, grilled meats or roasted birds.". Often times it is the tried and true traditions of a region that establish a classically recognized style in the world of wine. Although several producers in Tuscany have proved that the ‘old' methods are not the only way to make globally important wine, the deep rooted traditions in Brunello help to maintain the relevance of this little province in central Italy. Thankfully, in 2011, the Consorzio of Brunello di Montalcino voted to keep Rosso di Montalcino %100 Sangiovese, thereby preserving the identity and originality of wines like this. Caprili 2011 Rosso di Montalcino is still produced using sustainable farming methods, ambient yeast fermentation, and no new oak whatsoever. The resulting wine shows all that wonderful young sangiovese character of sour cherries, fresh herbs and bramble berries with a refreshing acidity, dusty tannin and medium to full body. The wine can clearly age well for at least the next few years. It's hard to beat a well-made Rosso di Montalcino especially when it is less than half the price of its ‘bigger brother' Brunello. Here's to the Consortzio for not selling out, Cin Cin!
