| Description: | Welschriesling is an ancient variety of white grape, unrelated to the Rhine Riesling, that is grown throughout Central Europe. Lackner-Tinnacher is known for an extremely elegant range that exhibits ravishing fruit brightness with delicate feminine nuances. No muscular powerhouses, these extremely long-lived wines evolve superbly during bottle aging. The history of Lacker Tinnacher starts in 1770, thus already involved in winemaking for 240 years. They have always remained a family enterprise, because it is fundamental to their self-conception and tradition. This philosophy gives them the freedom to create the wines just as they want them to be, apart from any fashion: pure, elegant, timeless. The family considers their most important assets to be the soils from which the vine wine draws its vigor. On six challenging single-vineyard sites, mostly very old and deeply rooted vines thrive, each of which has its own pedigree well known to the family. All Lackner Tinnacher wines are exclusively produced from fruit that is sourced from their own vineyards. The soil structures in the Sdsteiermark are as diverse as the grape varieties, ranging from sandstone and slate, to marl and shell limestone. The warm and humid Mediterranean climate results in a long and drawn out growing period for the vines, with cool nights that help to encourage the development of fine aromatic elements in these distinct and delicately fresh wines. The varied styles of wines allow producers to demonstrate their versatility, and range from light-bodied, fruit-driven 'Junker' young wines, the first wine of the new vintage, to the aromatic 'Klassik' wines, that show true varietal character, and finally the very-ripe, rich and opulent 'Lagen' or reserve style of wines, that usually come from special allocations in single vineyard sites. |
