Description: | Charles Joguet, a painter and sculptor by trade, abanodned his art career to begin a new profession at his family domain in 1957. Charles was a pioneer in the Loire Valley for single vineyard bottling and put Chinon on the map. Kermit Lynch discovered him in the 1970's and the rest is history. Today, Kevin Fontaine oversees the vineyards and cellar. He and his team cultivate thrity-six hectares of Cabernet Franc. The domaine bottles nine different cuvees, each one has its own unique story and terroir. Cuvee de Clos du Chene Vert is named for a monumental green oak tree that hangs over the parrcel which is a replanting of another 800 year old oak tree that was planted by the Abbey of Bourgueil in the 12th century. This is one of the oldest lieux dits in the AOC with 35 yr old vines, siliceous chalk and clay soils, and the most ageworthy of the cuvees. |
